Ensure that everyone has access to affordable, reliable and sustainable modern energy.
Energy is an issue of common concern to the world today, and is at the core of almost every major challenge and opportunity. Regardless of any occupation, safety, climate change, food production or increased income and expenditure, access to energy is essential for all people. Sustainable energy provides us with great opportunities to change our lifestyles, improve economic operations and protect the planet. The "Sustainable Energy for All" initiative led by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon aims to ensure universal access to modern energy services and improve the efficiency and use of renewable energy.
Challenges facing sustainable energy:
● One in five people still cannot use modern electricity
● 3 billion people rely on wood, coal, charcoal or animal waste for cooking and heating
● Energy supply, conversion, transmission and use are the main causes of climate change, accounting for approximately 60% of global greenhouse gas emissions
● Reducing energy carbon intensity, that is, carbon emissions per unit of energy use, is a key to achieving long-term climate goals
